JAXX T’s BIO
Hailing from the island state of Singapore Jasper Tay, known as DJ Jaxx T is an open format DJ, event organizer, and musical curator.
Formally the musical consultant for Club Myst (DJ Mag Rank #72 Nightclub), Jaxx T drew from an eclectic selection in each genre, never sticking with a playlist - ensuring each live performance is unique.
A usually energetic selector, Jaxx T has developed a range of musicality that spans intricate Trap, pummeling Bass music, and ethereal vocals through to deep house - occasionally mixing it up into his own definitive dance floor anthems.
Recently winning the DONAROO Concert DJ Competition in San Francisco, Jaxx T remains a fixture in the burgeoning nightlife scene in both Nor-Cal and Singapore, and has even opened for international names such as Ty Dolla $ign, Elley Duhé, LIONE, TEEZ, Vicetone and Wolfpack to name a few.
He has also performed at some of the biggest club venues in Asia, including Zouk Singapore, Myst Shanghai, and Fusion Shanghai as well as creating his own event imprint “Modvlar” that has held events in both of his home states.
Q&A with JAXX T
1. How long have you been a DJ?
I have been DJing since 2012. Professionally for 3 years.
2. How and why did you start DJ-ing?
My passion is in connecting and interacting with people. As such, I was able to connect with people from all around the globe, which had, in turn, allowed me to become a music enthusiast, a disc jockey, as well as an entrepreneur today.
3. What or Who inspired you to become a DJ? Why?
Back in 2012, Dash Berlin was headlining at a nightclub in Shanghai. It was my first international DJ show and everyone sang along to their songs. It was really amazing to see people from different countries come together for a dance music show. Since then, I told myself that I want to entertain the crowd like how Dash Berlin did it.
4. Are there any upcoming events or pieces that you are currently working on?
I am currently having a residency at The Valencia Room every Saturday (sometimes Friday). Come through and party with me!
5. What advice would you give to up-and-coming DJs?
1. Learn how to read your crowd.
2. Keep up with current musical trends.
3. Learn how to be an entertainer.
4. Learn how to mix properly. Record your set so you can listen to it again.
