Sumeera is pursuing an M.F.A. in Nonfiction Writing at the University of San Francisco. She was raised in the Inland Empire of Southern California with her roots grounded in Panjab. When not lost in her own lullabies, she directs Spilled Chai, a digital publication celebrating the outpour of the hyphenated-identity—a brewing prototype. Lastly, you can find Sumeera behind the turntables as DJ Eddemami, slapping eclectic beats & bangers.

1. How long have you been a DJ?
Three years.
2. How and why did you start DJ-ing?
I’ve always been fascinated by sound, since I was young. Outside of writing, it was my outlet to articulate my mood, and spirit. I started getting into individual DJs, then realized how tangible it was for me to chase & curate sounds. I love with setting the vibe of a space.
3. What or Who inspired you to become a DJ? Why?
Soulection.
4. Are there any upcoming events or pieces that you are currently working on?
Upcoming radio mixes for my magazine.
5. What advice would you give to up-and-coming DJs?
You don’t need expensive equipment to DJ, as long as you work at your craft, the skills will show & flow.
